The Kon Mari method of decluttering by Marie Kondo is considered to be an art form.
From an international bestseller book to her very own Netflix series, she surely has a few lessons to share.
1.Embracing change
Change can be scary as we have learnt this past one year of the pandemic.
But change in a positive direction is good. When you clean everything up - and not just your physical surroundings but also the different parts of your life – you undergo a transformation.
Change can be scary. But change can also help you grow.
2.Leave behind what doesn’t bring you joy
Marie Kondo talks about the spark of joy and she quotes“The best way to choose what to keep and what to throw away is to take each item in one’s hand and ask: ‘Does this spark joy?’ If it does, keep it. If not, dispose of it."
Pick up an item and see if it sparks joy. Does it add to the mood of the room? Does it empower you? Does it motivate you to build the lifestyle you want to create?
3.Letting go is an internal detox
Knick knacks, book, clothes and even glass figurines all hold some sentimental and emotional value.
When you choose to let go – you undergo a detox. A detox of not just your surroundings but of body and mind too.
Soon this internal cleanse that you undergo will seep into other aspects of your life too.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The Kon Mari method insists on decluttering and making change all at once – in one go.
For good reason too– for you can see immediate transformation that helps you feel more empowered and reduces the chance of bringing the clutter back.
Make a change. Start small and see it make a difference.
