I’m sure I check my phone more than 96 times a day
When I sit down to work and study I hope and plan for a productive session. To be able to complete my assignments and meet my deadlines.
But some days I get side tracked and lose my focus on the work session at hand.
Here are 2 things that I have noticed that hamper my workflow- and I often let go unnoticed.
Digital deviations.
In a study by Asurion the average person checks their phone 96 times a day.
So , the devices around us are a big chunk of the problem. They deviate us and distract us from the task at hand.
When I decide to take a 10-minute tv break it can turn into a 60-minute episode of my favourite show. When I decide to watch one YouTube video it can turn into hours of mindless scrolling.
The fix to this is to change your breaks into something that will refresh and not pull you down the rabbit hole. you. Like taking a walk. Or reading a book. Or calling up a friend.
Taking on more than you can handle
When you try to pick too many projects all at once – you tend to waste your resources.
When I started out at High School - I signed up for the photography club, the basketball team , as a school fest volunteer to top it all I had my regular school work, homework and exam prep.
Needless to say I wasn’t able to devote the necessary effort to all these projects at once.
When you decide to tackle too many things at once your energy and resources get divided among them.Hence none of your projects bear any fruit because you haven’t given it enough time and energy.
The fix is to pick 2 – 3 projects you can completely devote yourself to. To not take on more than you can handle.
