Diversions of a Busy Lawyer continues....
The car struck a wayside lorry standing on the road, and lodged itself in a ditch full of water. The collision suddenly woke me up and I found that all of us with my wife and children were lodged in a pool of water. Luckily for all of us the car had not overturned; no one was hurt excepting my daughter, Krishna, who was sucking her thumb and had bitten her lip. My driver who was sitting alongside me in the front seat was also asleep. He, however, managed to take the car out of the pit somehow. Some damage had been done to it but after a short while we were able to drive to Pathankot where necessary repairs were done.
We went to Upper Dharamsala for the summer vacation and stayed at Elysium. From there we motored to the Kulu Valley. The road from Mandi to Kulu had been for the first time made motorable. Our first halt was at Biajnath. We stayed at the dak bungalow which tops a hill, with a sparkling blue stream flowing below. The spring here is famous for the medicinal qualities of its waters. From Baijnath we motored to Mandi where I met an old friend of mine, Mr. Kanwar Narain, who was Judicial Minister, Mandi. From Mandi we motored to Kulu. The road could hardly take our car, and a slight error at the wheel would have hurtled us into the Beas River. We drove at a speed of about five miles an hour. After lunch we halted at a roadside dak bungalow at Baijaura where we visited an orchard full of delicious apples. We reached Kulu in the evening. After spending a day at Kulu we motored to Katrain, one of the most beautiful spots in the valley situated on the river Beas and famous for its trout fishing. Here we stayed with Pandha Mohan Lal, one of the oldest clients of my father.
