"Sovereignty Under Siege" continues...

Geelani met Shaukat and Afsan Guru often and during one such meeting,
Shaukat introduced him to his first cousin Afzal Guru, who also belonged to Baramulla. Whenever Afzal was in town, they would meet and discuss the ‘ongoing jihadi freedom struggle’ to liberate Kashmir.

During his interrogation, besides the above-mentioned facts, Geelani
disclosed that nearly two months before the Parliament House attack, during one of his meetings with Afzal, he was introduced to one Mohammad, who had come from Pakistan and belonged to JeM. Shaukat,
Afzal, Mohammad and Geelani shared details of a plan to carry out a fedayeen attack on the Parliament House in New Delhi. Geelani was also told that four other members of JeM had come to Delhi with arms,
ammunition and explosives. Money for the operation was arranged by
hawala from Dubai.

Geelani also disclosed that he, along with Afzal and Shaukat, had been in
touch with the five JeM terrorists from Pakistan who stormed into the
parliament complex on 13 December 2001. Afzal was the main coordinator
for the said mission. He further stated that meetings were held in Shaukat’s
house in Mukherjee Nagar, during which Shaukat and Afzal, along with the
other five terrorists, had discussed the plan to carry out the attack on the
Indian parliament.
After Geelani’s interrogation, the investigation team raided a first-floor
flat in Mukherjee Nagar and arrested Afsan Guru aka Navjot Sandhu, wife
of Shaukat Hussain. The mobile phone with the number 98xxx73506 was
recovered from her possession. Some calls that had been made from this
mobile were to the phone of her husband Shaukat, who had left for Srinagar
with Afzal soon after the terror attack. Afsan Guru admitted that she had
been aware of the plan to attack the Indian Parliament as several
conspiratorial meetings had been held in her presence at her house in
Mukherjee Nagar.

The informat about Shaukat’s and Afzal’s escape to Srinagar was
shared by the investigating team with the Srinagar Police, who apprehended
the duo at a truck stand in Srinagar.
