Global Terror Infrastructure and Implications for India continues...
The increasing terror activities in south India may have had a link with the ISI-LTTE bond against India. The arrest of two Pakistani terrorists in Mysore a few years ago has unveiled the shifting base to south India and it has possible link with Colombo. There are reports of ISI presence in Sri Lanka to control the terrorist activities in south India. Bangalore has several defence, atomic and space establishments and is the centre place of India’s booming IT sector.
While Pakistan has been officially selling arms to the Sri Lanka Government, ostensibly to assist the latter fight insurgency, the ISI has started a covert supply of arms and other material to the same insurgents, the LTTE rebels, with the clear aim of befriending the terrorist group so that it facilitates its efforts to unleash terror in south and north-east India.
The arrests of some Pakistani terrorists in south India during 2006-10 have heightened speculation about secret links between the ISI and the LTTE. These reports cannot be dismissed lightly because Pakistan, through the ISI, has long been trying to encircle India with bases for subversive, anti-India elements in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Now in tandem with China which has turned hostile to India, this axis of Pakistan and China, and soon to be augmented by Taliban controlled Afghanistan, is a huge terror threat to India.
Being under the scanner on the western border, the basic objective of the ISI in Bangladesh is the encirclement of India. It uses the strategy of supporting and encouraging insurgency in the north-east with active support from anti-India elements in Bangladesh. The ISI has managed to establish a intricate, network in Bangladesh, due to the presence of pro-Pakistan sympathizers after 1971 and made inroads in Bangladeshi society and polity between the period 1975-96 when the Awami League was out of power. ISI’s presence in Bangladesh is with the sole motive of destabilizing India.
Today, the ULFA no longer espouses the ideology of a migrant-free Assam and has even justified the contribution of illegal Bangladeshis in Assam’s economy.
