Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India.
Yoga holds a special significance in everybody's life. It helps in relieving stress and provides us with peace.
As rightly stated by Indian PM Narendra Modi:
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.
The International Yoga Day has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015. The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, had suggested the date of 21st June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
The theme for International Yoga Day 2021 is "Yoga for Well-being"
Its aim is to raise awareness about how yoga can promote the holistic health of every individual. The UNICEF has said that even children can practice Yoga poses without any risk to get the same benefits that adults do.
Most people, during the time of this pandemic adopted Yoga because they can stay in the right frame of mind in such stressing times where you hear or see the news of people dying in huge numbers everyday around the whole world.
Even the Indian Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said "Relevance of Yoga has increased during COVID-19. Yoga has helped us to maintain our physical and mental health. We should make Yoga or other physical activities a part of our daily life. These will help us to increase our immunity against corona virus."
Events in most parts of the world this year are being held online amid the pandemic, with yoga gurus leading the practitioners and guiding them through digital mediums.
Yoga is of utmost importance and it should be adopted by people of every age group. The best time for doing Yoga is in the morning and it keeps you fresh for the whole day.
