Now for a medical fact: a small penis becomes much larger when it stiffens
and a large penis only becomes slightly larger when it stiffens, so the difference is not going to be much, if any. This is one reason why many men believe their penis is smaller than normal, as they steal anxious glances at other men in restrooms and look at themselves disappointedly like Cooper in the Netflix series Sex/Life.
To know more about penile anxieties and why men often lose their minds and even sleep over it, we posed the question to Dr Lawrence I Sank, a Harvard trained clinician, co-director of Cognitive Therapy Centre, Greater Washington and a founding member of VVox.
Dr Lawrence I Sank: Men get a lot of distorted ideas about penis size because their reference point is almost always porn. This is a bad comparison to make because porn stars are a self-selected sample, and don't represent reality. The size of penis in a flaccid state is not an indication of its real erect size.
Also how you look at it can also make a difference. For instance, when a man looks down on his penis, because of the angle from which he is looking, it will appear small. This phenomenon is called foreshortening.
Penis size becomes an issue only if there is a genetic disorder. For instance, if the penis is just half an inch on erection, then it can be a problem. There are medical procedures to lengthen the size, but losing sensation is a definite risk. So unless a person has some distinct anomaly, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Yes, there are women who are size queens, but then there are also women who are frightened by large penises and find them aesthetically unappealing, just like the way men have varied preferences and tastes when it comes to breast size.
