Kohli needs an attitude adjustment
Or an attitude change?
Virat Kohli is easily one of the best players of his generation, if not in the history of the game. But, one thing critics and observers of the game may argue about is that his luck does not really favour him in major tournaments.
For all the records and benchmarks that the Indian skipper has set over the years, barring multiple excellent series wins, India have never actually won a major tournament under his captaincy at the senior level. The fact that India have never won a major trophy with Kohli at the helm is especially hard to digest given the fact that India have been ranked No.1 in both One Day Internationals as well as Tests under his captaincy and not to mention his stellar record as a captain. Virat Kohli easily has the best win% of any Indian captain in history with 70.43%, though this number may change in the future as he has captained relatively fewer games compared to the likes of MS Dhoni, Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly, nevertheless his win% as Indian captain is nothing short of extraordinary to say the least.
India have faltered at the final hurdle under Kohli a number of times with the first one being his first tournament as captain which was the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy which India coincidentally lost to Pakistan and the most recent one coming to New Zealand at the World Test Championships Final. India had also unluckily lost to New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup after completely dominating the tournament up to that point
Many might argue that this is unlike any other tournament India have gone into under Kohli, with the Indians being in fine form having put in world class displays in their two warm-up games against England and Australia. Is this finally going to be the tournament win that Kohli so desperately craves and deserves? Well, only time will tell.
