Rihanna is one of the biggest artists in the world, and she has starred in several movies too, including Battleship and Ocean's 8. She was raised in Bridgetown, Barbados before moving to the United States and making a name. She is still at heart a Barbadian. With Barbados becoming a republic by officially removing the Queen as its head of state, it is also the time for Barbados to mint new heroes for a new republic. And Rihanna is a perfect start. She has held the honorary title of Ambassador for Culture and Youth in Barbados since 2018.
Justifying the honor, Prime Minister Mia Mottley said that Rihanna had commanded "the imagination of the world through the pursuit of excellence with her creativity, her discipline, and above all else, her extraordinary commitment to the land of her birth". Barbados was part of the British empire for 396 years, and it gained independence 55 years ago. But all these years its head of state was Queen. That will change now.
