Football is all about scoring goals. The team scoring more, wins the game. And the players scoring goals, become the big stars. We have big names on the list like Ronaldo, Messi scoring goals and becoming legends in game. But, this Manchester City side is rewriting the traditions and theories of modern football by scoring most goals but not by their star strikers.
You wouldn't believe that their striker Reheem Sterling is currently at 11th position in goal scorers tally with 7 goals, whereas Mo Salah tops with 16 goals and team mate Diego Jota second with 10 goals. But, this season also, City is continuing to win games by scoring at will, like previous 2 seasons. They have already scored 53 goals from 21 games, keeping a goal difference of 40 goals.
When a team's any player is able to score goals, why do we even need a striker? Let's see two of their recent results :-
1. 6-3 v Leicester City:
In this match, 5 of their players scored - Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan, Reheem Sterling (2), Aymeric Laporte.
2. 7-0 v Leeds United
When they demolished Leeds in a home match, six different players scored including Ake and Stones. In the match where we saw incredible attacking football, Bielsa suffered his first ever 7 goal loss in his incredible 568 match-long management career. Foden's first goal was the 500th goal under Guardiola in just 207 matches, becoming fastest manager To reach the milestone, they overtook Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool (234 matches).
Their playing style is the key to this success. Guardiola at City uses technically good players with good quality passing skills to plan his game. He loves to keeps possession with quick passing, and loves to take the ball deep into the opponent box and finish from close.
In previous seasons, City have managed to top the list by scoring 83 (20-21 Champions) and 102 (19-20 Liverpool Champions) when their top scorers were Gundogan (13 goals) and Sterling (20 goals) respectively.
