Portugal's club Belenenses began a league match against Benfica on Saturday with only nine players after the team's coronavirus outbreak. Then it was canceled shortly after half-time.
Berenenses was soon delayed due to the reduced number of two players. Benfica scored all goals in the 70th win of the first half. The referee ended the match shortly after the start of the second half.
Only seven players were on the field for Belenenses, but Belenenses soon lost another when one fell on the grass, leaving only six.
Soccer law allows each team to play the game as long as there are seven players, including a goalkeeper.
Club president Louis Pedro Soares said his club did not demand a postponement of the match despite the team's defeat.
