Red food recipe
INGREDIENTS
Tomatoes-1 cup
Basil Leaves Figs- 1 tbsp
Chopped Garlic- 1/4 cup
Urad Dal Channa Dal-1 tbsp
Mustard Oil- 2 tbsp
Fenugreek Seeds-2 tbsp
Dry Red Chilli- 2 no’s
Turmeric Powder- 1/2tsp
Honey -1/2 tbsp
Salt- according to taste
DRESSING
Oil- 2 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds-1/4 tsp
Urad Dal- 1 tbsp
Black Seeds (Kalonji)- 1 tbsp
Asafoetida-pinch
Curry Leaves- 4 to 5
RED FOODS TOMATOES, BASIL AND FIG CHUTNEY
Heat mustard oil in a pan. Saute urad dal, chana dal, methi and red chilli. adding few seeds of methi in it. Saute till dal turns golden brown. Add garlic to it.
Add chopped tomatoes, figs and continue to saute till the water evaporates completely and
tomato reduces in size.
Add basil leaves and spice to it.
Transfer to a small blender once the mixture is cool. blend to a smooth paste without adding
any water. Add honey to finish it.
Now prepare the tempering. Heat oil in a small kadai. Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds,
urad dal, hing, black seeds and curry leaves. allow the tempering to splutter.
Pour the tempering over tomato chutney.
