The Arkansas state Senate recently took a decisive step in acknowledging the inherently sexual nature of drag shows by passing legislation that categorizes venues hosting drag shows similarly to strip clubs. This move is long overdue and makes perfect sense.
Frankly, this is long overdue. The distinction between strip clubs and drag shows is practically non-existent. Both feature performers engaging in suggestive and lewd behavior, almost always while scantily clad. In some cases, strip clubs don't even require performers to disrobe, and drag shows have been known to include performers exposing their private areas.
It is essential to recognize that there is a fine line between revealing performances and those that are vulgar. Drag shows, by their very nature, involve men dressing provocatively and behaving in a sexual manner. Such acts should never take place on public property or be performed in front of children, just as strip clubs should not.
