The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) says that it establishes a Military Corp to prevent deforestation in the country.
A consultative meeting was held on a plan to prevent wood smuggling and illegal deforestation on Sunday, November 21, according to a newsletter by the ministry.
According to information, the meeting discussed some issues, including deforestation prevention, wood smuggling, the legal fuelwood trade, and quarter sawing which the plan is set to be presented at a cabinet meeting soon.
In addition, Shamsuddin Shariati, Deputy Minister of Water Supply and Natural Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture, expressed concern about the brutal deforestation and said, โThe Taliban interim government is determined to prevent deforestation and smuggling.โ
Therefore, for this purpose, a 400-military unit will be created to retake the seized lands of the MAIL and the protection of the countryโs indigenous forests, he added.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that in recent years, the countryโs forests and trees have been cut down illegally and smuggled out of Afghanistan.
