These experiences are always so weird🥴
Well said
Once, I was in an airport's smoking lounge when a man approached me. He was older, and he had that disapproving look on his face that is so familiar to many young Indian women. The look that says 'Beware, an uncle is about to begin a lecture.'
He asked me if I was Indian, which surprised me. I replied 'Why do you ask that?' He said: 'Because Indian women don't smoke.'
Look, smoking is a bad habit, I understand. At this point in human history, I think everyone knows that! But considering that men do it in public without stares and criticism, I would just like that same right: to smoke without interference.
In the Madhur Bhandarkar movie Fashion, Priyanka Chopra smokes her first cigarette. This is portrayed as the beginning of her backsliding into moral depravity. From then on, she becomes what is typically known as a Bollywood 'vamp'- she drinks alcohol, sleeps with married men, and wears skimpy clothes.
As long as Indians imbibe this sort of rubbish, our culture will never improve, and we'll keep lecturing young women in smoking lounges instead of minding our own business.
