12 was when feel the show first truly became bad. As someone who's seen every episode of Supernatural at least twice, I've seen my fair share of weak or inconsistent episodes. But I could barely make it through 12 at all. Why? Weak excuses for plot were driving the story. "Oh no... Mom's back! Even though she died in the FIRST EPISODE which led us to become hunters in the first place and it shouldn't be possible AT FUCKING ALL!" and "Oh no! Lucifer rose AGAIN and is a ROCK STAR!" and "Oh hi we're a secret British society and we're too posh to just ask nicely what the FUCK has been going on in America since you boys started hunting so we'll BEAT AND TORTURE YOU FOR IT yay!!" Much of the season just made no fucking sense and the episodes were inconsistent. Sam and Dean barely had any development.
13 was meh. Some interesting ideas popped up, and Jack brought a much-needed dynamic back to the show, but by this point... the mythology is inconsistent, the characters are flat and can't grow anymore, the story is going in exhausting circles, Ackles' and Padalecki's acting is getting tired.... You get the point. The show is just suffering. It is a beloved thing with a hardcore fanbase but at this point the dead horse has become a patty. People need to learn to let things go and end things gracefully for the brothers. As a huge fan, I really want them to have a nice closing season and a decent finish. The Winchesters deserve it.
Finally I'd like to say that I think Supernatural has done a good job pulling things together for a fan-service filled and high-stakes final season; things with the end in sight things have gotten more focused and emotional. I'm glad the show is ending on a high note and I have appreciated the entire ride, even though I feel sometimes there have been lacking moments... and seasons. I have enjoyed Supernatural immensely despite me feeling the show is not so great anymore, and I have no regrets having kept up with it for so long.
