The Senate approved bipartisan legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday. The approval came hours after Sen. Ron Johnson, who blocked a similar resolution in 2020, said he'd drop his objection to the bill. Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the end of slavery in the US. Texas was the first to recognize Juneteenth as a holiday in 1980, while 48 other states and the District of Columbia have passed similar measures.
