Cristiano Ronaldo is on course to become the most capped player in international football if he plays for Portugal during the Euro2024 qualification opener against Liechtenstein on Thursday. The 38-year-old moved level with Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa when he played in the World Cup defeat against Morocco.
Ronaldo has been called up for Roberto Martinez's first Portugal squad and is likely to break the record. Speaking to the media, the striker said that he is motivated by records and the chance to be the most capped player was very important to him. He is already the top international goalscorer with 118 goals.
Ronaldo - who has scored 9 goals in 10 games for Al Nassr since his United exit - was described by Martinez as "very important for the team". The manager also said that he does not look at age.
