The Kamrup (Metro) administration has directed the public works department to install warning signs in areas where construction is being carried out so that fatal accidents can be prevented, mostly during the city floods.
The directives were given by Kamrup (Metro) DC Pallav Gopal Jha in a meeting held with the officials of different departments on flood preparation.
It may be mentioned here that the PWD is carrying out massive reconstruction work of footpaths above drains as per the Assam government's mission to make Guwahati flood free. Besides, the construction of two flyovers- one at Maligaon and the other at RG Baruah Road- is also going on in full swing. Because of these construction works, there are a lot of open areas in the city that are potentially threatening to the citizens.
Guwahati flood is a perennial issue, and a lot of work has been done in the past to mitigate it, but with little success.
The clearance of drains and the construction of footpaths are the latest steps undertaken by the PWD to make Guwahati flood-free.
Meanwhile, the PWD has claimed that it will complete the construction of drains on time and before the monsoon.
