The POP Movement conducted two interactive workshops with the students of Escuela Normal Miguel F. Martinez in Monterrey, Mexico on March 6, 2019. The first workshop engaged approximately 150 students, while the second engaged 120 students. All the students at the Escuela Normal are training to be teachers in 2021. As teachers, they voiced their tremendous potential to catalyze change. The participants made several interesting presentations (using interactive games, music, dance, poems, and piano recitals!) to share their ideas, including those to promote waste segregation, water conservation, and to implement youth programs to create awareness about energy, soil, air and water pollution, and reforestation!!
As educators, they plan to implement programs to raise conscientiousness around keeping our planet healthy. They shared concrete actions that they will implement to create change, Protect our Planet, and preserve biodiversity. Their key message to the world is that money will not buy our future, action will. “It will be too late when we are left with the last tree and the last drop of water. We need to act NOW!” A jury consisting of officials, Dra. Ruth Reyna from the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Monterrey and officials from the school, Mr. Ovidio Cortinas Arriaga and Mr. Alberto Gonzalez, respectively, judged and attended the presentations and gave out awards to the top 3. All the presentations were celebrated!

(In this report series, POP Movement intends to present its past activities to showcase the growing acknowledgement and positive response that the environmental crisis has had among youth, government leaders, and other stakeholders across geographies in recent years. We believe that this presents hope for this decade of action.)
