Curry is gunning for the MVP title. Jokic and Giannis better be ready.
The Warriors have been the best team in the NBA so far this season and the main catalyst of their success is the 6’3 guard who is objectively the greatest shooter in NBA history, Stephen Curry. Steph is averaging 27.8 PPG, 5.7 REB (career-high), 6.6 AST, 1.8 STL on 45.2%-41.2%-94.3% shooting splits. Steph has always been one of the best offensive players in the league however, this season his defense has been getting more attention and for good reasons.
Steph is boasting the best defensive rating of his career at 100 which is one of the best defensive ratings amongst all guards in the NBA. There has always been a narrative around Curry suggesting that he is a bad defender but this season he is surely proving this narrative false. Steph Curry has been exerting himself on defense every game and locks players in the perimeter by taking quicks steps to move and stay in front of the offensive player he is guarding. His effort has resulted in the biggest decrease in opponent 3P% when being guarded by Steph of his entire career. The warriors have always preferred playing a small ball lineup with aggressive switching hence Curry uses this to lead ball handlers towards Draymond Green or Andre Iguodala and covers the passing lanes resulting in turnovers for the opposing team.
One of his most impact skills is his gravity. A player’s gravity is their ability to draw defenders towards them with or without the ball anywhere on the court. Curry’s gravity is so strong that it creates multiple opportunities for his teammates. Steph can almost never have a bad game since his mere presence on the court disrupts opponent defenses to a point where breakdowns are unavoidable.
Steph is the best player on the best team in the NBA and while we are only a quarter of the way through the season, Steph looks better than ever and his impact on the Warriors makes them real Championship contenders especially once Klay Thompson returns to action.
