I’ve been thinking about Romelu Lukaku’s interview which was blown out of proportion last night and how it affected Chelsea fans and their reaction, with some saying it’s disrespectful towards the club.
During an interview with Sky in Italy, Romelu Lukaku said that he was "not very happy" with the situation at Chelsea. Lukaku said, "Physically I'm doing great. I'm just not very happy with the situation, but that's normal. I think the boss has decided to play a different formation but I have to stick at it and get on with it professionally.”
Questioning Thomas Tuchel's system and speaking about returning to Inter while he is still playing at a "good enough level", didn’t seem to go well with the Stamford Bridge faithful. And they have every right to feel so.
Earlier in the summer, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Romelu Lukaku signing from Inter in €115m deal and there were high expectations. While his playing time has been affected by injuries and COVID-19 situation, we haven’t seen the best of him even during regular game time, scoring 7 goals in 18 appearances.
While it’s difficult to say if the timing of the interview being released is wrong or the statements by Lukaku were not needed, considering he’s only 6 months into his return to London.
With the current situation at Chelsea looking bad - due to injuries, health issues and results not going in their favour, I personally feel Lukaku should have spoken to Tuchel in private and addressed the situation in a better way to find a solution in a ‘professional’ manner!
