NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says its members are committed to providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
"NATO has ended its military presence in Afghanistan," Stoltenberg said. But NATO allies continue to provide humanitarian assistance to humanitarian organizations through various UN agencies. "And I welcome that because we must continue to support the people of Afghanistan."
The Secretary-General of NATO says that the Organization and its allies will continue their efforts to fight terrorism in Afghanistan and the region.
"Therefore, we will work hard to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven again, a platform on which terrorist organizations can plan, organize, train, finance and carry out major terrorist attacks against our own countries," Stoltenberg added. "If they do, we will continue."
But the UAE welcomes NATO's commitment to humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, but says the presence of 20 NATO allies in Afghanistan has been detrimental and devastating.
NATO has been defending its 20-year presence in Afghanistan and, ultimately, the process of leaving the country, which many have challenged as NATO's presence, calling it the most failed mission.
