Seems like the mystery behind the sudden darkening of Betelgeuse, a red supergiant, has finally been solved.
Amid speculations of a probable explosion, a team using the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile have found that the dimming effect was due to a large dust cloud.
The supergiant which is a part of the constellation of Orion had suddenly started dimming towards the end of 2019. The loss of brightness was greater than anything ever recorded till date.
