"My best years are ahead of me," Emi Martinez targets UCL glory
Emi Martinez played a pivotal role in Argentina's World Cup winning campaign last year. The Argentine goalkeeper made some stunning saves at the World Cup, including a crucial stoppage time save against France in the finals. After claiming the World Cup, Emi Martinez is hungrier for even more success at the club level.
Emi Martinez reveals that his next big goal is to win the Champions League with Aston Villa in the coming few years. He acknowledges the fact that Aston Villa have not won a title since years, but he believes it is just a matter of time before the glory days return to the Villa Park. Moreover, he believes that the best days of his footballing career still lay ahead of him.
"I just turned 30, but that’s something I will keep working towards. My best years are ahead of me," said Martinez.
“I always set goals for myself. I can’t play without that. I need to have something to hit. I’ve done it with my national team, I did it with my old club, I’ve done good things with Aston Villa, nearly getting to Europe, but I want to win a trophy here," he added.
"We haven’t won one in many, many years, and with a good manager here and some really good players, I am trying to help fix that," Martinez concluded.
Aston Villa are placed 11th in the Premier League table, and are still very much in the mix for a place in Europe next season.
