From the Massive Stair of Jama Masjid, can be seen a market congested with small shops and multiple shoppers, known as Meena Bazaar.
It was the Bazaar where the Royal ladies used to come to shop for their silk and jewels. The market in the city of Shahjahanabad was designed in a way that it falls between the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid for easy access to the ladies.
During the Mughal Era the bazaars were exclusively held for women, while only the emperor and few princes were allowed in the market.
There are Dhabas and food stalls located throughout the Bazaar serving mouth watering non vegetarian delicacies. Along with plethora of shopping options available, being a paradise for shoppers from selling burqas, paan, caps and exotic items like embroidered caps for Muslim men, local cosmetics, pictures and posters of sacred places.
Although the market is still quite prevalent today, but it is very congested and has somewhere lost its Medieval charm and elegance.
