Senegal inflicted a crushing defeat in their second game of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Thumama stadium. The hosts suffered their second consecutive loss of this World Cup. The defeat means that Qatar are now knocked out of the World Cup inside the group stages. Senegal meanwhile were able to open their account with this fine win and were able to add three highly crucial points in their account. All their eyes shall now be on Ecuador's upcoming game against Netherlands.
Senegal looked comfortable with the ball in their posession right from the early stages of the game. The side came close to opening the scoring when Nampalys Mendy found some space to shoot in front of goal following some excellent build up play by Sobaly and Dia previously. Mendy's first time shot however flew wide of the goal. The African side came close again when Dia cushioned a good ball for Dia, who saw his brilliant low shot brush off the outside of the post. Senegal finally took the lead towards the later phase of the first half following some erroneous stuff at the back by Qatar. Khoukhi failed to clear his lines which provided Dia with a chance to roll the ball past Barsham.
Senegal doubled their advantage early into the second half. A fine corner kick from Jacobs found Famara Diedhiou who in turn flicked his header into the far top corner. Qatar finally had their first shot on target in this World Cup which was tipped over the bar by Edouard Mendy. The side also had its first ever World Cup goal in the 79th minute when Mohammed Muntari rose high to head Ismail Mohamad's cross past Mendy to pull one back. Senegal wrapped up the match and all three points as Bamba Dieng brilliantly found Ndiaye's ball into the middle and struck a first time shot past Barsham into the goal. FT:- Senegal 3-1 Qatar.
