England and the USA shared points in a goalless draw at the Al Bayt Stadium on Matchday 2 of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Three Lions had the golden opportunity to become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals this year by winning tonight’s match, but they missed out on it.
In the battle between football and soccer (in the USA, football is called soccer), the United States of America surprisingly got the better of England. The two teams had almost equal possession. The USA attempted 10 shots compared to England’s 8 and also got better chances to score. In fact, Christian Pulisic was denied by the crossbar in the first half.
After England’s first match of the tournament against Iran, in which they registered a ravishing 6-2 win, it was being estimated that they would register an easy win over the USA as well. However, to everyone’s surprise, Sergino Dest and Co. put up a great fight for the Three Lions. Had they not been so unlucky, they might also have won the match and shocked the world.
England got some good chances in the final minutes of the game as well. Harry Kane, for example, came very close to winning but ended up hitting it wide.
With this result, England remain on top of Group B’s table with 4 points. On the other hand, the USA is third on the table with 2 points. They will now have to register a win over Iran in order to qualify for the next round. England, on the other hand, will have to make sure that they do not lose against Wales in their next match. Group B is one of the most open groups in the competition, and all four teams have a chance to make it to Round 16.
