Tite’s Brazil have kicked off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in style with a 2-0 win over a resolute Serbia side. Serbia, who were one of the most promising underdog sides in the European Qualifiers this year, were schooled by the Brazilian players in what ended up being a battle between physicality and skill. Serbia is stacked with players who stand over six feet tall and are bulky. Brazil, on the other hand, has talented players who are immensely skilled, which is what the nation is known for. In the end, the skilled Brazilian side overpowered the physical Serbia side pretty easily.
Serbia is known to be a defensive team, and they seemingly stepped on the field tonight with a mentality to eke out just a point. Apart from a few good moves, their attack was totally stale, and although they did not maintain a high block, they played ultra defensively for the full 90 minutes. Defense being their strongest front, Milinkovic and Co. were successful in holding the Brazilian attacks in the first half pretty efficiently.
However, once Brazil got their breakthrough goal through Richarlison, it was all over for Serbia. Following their known trait, Brazil increased their offense after getting their first goal, and Serbia never really got back into the game. Richarlison scored his second goal of the night with a stunning bicycle kick off Vinicius Jr’s assist, which will probably be termed as the best goal of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The number nine, who was used by Tite against Serbia just for his physicality, turned out to be their hero of the night.
Brazil attempted a total of 22 shots tonight, out of which 8 were on target. Serbia, on the other hand, attempted five shots, of which none were on target.
The Selecao will now face Switzerland on 28th November.
