Australia registered a magnificent victory over Tunisia in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Janoub Stadium. Graham Arnold's men were coming off after having suffered a thrashing defeat against France in their previous match. The three points which the side was able to achieve following this win might thus prove to be highly crucial as the group stage progresses. Tunisia on the other hand were handed a disheartening defeat. The side's hopes of making it into the Round Of 16 stages are really slim as they have only 1 point to their name in 2 matches.
Australia started strongly as they looked comfortable with the ball in their posession. Regular attempts to attack the Tunisian net finally helped them take the lead in the 23rd minute. Goodwin's drilled cross took a deflection initially and fell into the path of Mitchel Duke who made no mistake and placed his shot past the keeper into the net to make it 1-0. Tunisia had their first great opportunity to score in the dying minutes of the first half. Jebali's fine cross was found by Youssef Msakni. The forward could however only send his shot wide of the target from close range.
The early minutes of the second half saw both the sides make multiple substitutional changes their by making their intentions of strengthening the grip over the game clear.
It was in the 72nd minute that Msakni was once again in action for Tunisia as he threatened the Australian defence. He had a shot at the near post region and then sent another right footed shot from the left flank, each of which were saved by the Aussie shotstopper - Mathew Ryan. Neither of the teams seemed to find their rhythm towards the later half. Duke's goal proved to be the difference between the two sides eventually as Australia bagged all three points. FT:- Australia 1-0 Tunisia.
