Master of Engineering Science programs in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health
KTH offers 11 Master's programs in the subject area that focus on various theoretical and applied aspects of engineering sciences in chemistry, biotechnology and health. They are all essential in addressing the many global challenges facing humanity, such as the need for sustainable energy, health and aging populations, climate change, sustainable production and clean water.
Chemical engineering for energy and environment
The program offers broad knowledge in the diverse field of chemical engineering with an emphasis on sustainability. Students gain modern tools to analyze various processes, from biofuel production to drinking water purification. Graduates have the engineering skills necessary to address the societal challenge of how best to use available energy and limited natural resources.
In this program you will gain advanced knowledge and skills in chemical engineering and obtain modern tools to analyze different processes. These processes can be anything from biofuel production and energy storage to the purification of drinking water and exhaust gases. You will gain efficiency throughout the chain, from raw materials to finished product. Process analyzes often include aspects of chemicals, heat, electricity and the environment.
The first year and the first semester of the second year consist of one compulsory course in Theory and Methodology of Science with Applications as well as conditional and recommended elective courses, allowing you to tailor your education to achieve your personal and professional goals. The remainder of the second year consists of a mandatory project course in process design for industry and society. During your final semester, you will carry out a degree project in a company, at KTH or at another university or research institute around the world.
