Wesley Snipes all the way!
Blade has always been one of Marvel’s more darker superheroes, and in his grimness and somewhat of a dark humour so well shown in the 2000s Wesley Snipes films, now that Blade has also come in the MCU, only time will tell if Marvel can do justice to their own character in live action.
But with the childish and horrible direction they have taken ever since the end of Phase 3, it seems very unlikely that they will be able to show Blade as his true self.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was indeed a great surprise done incredibly well and the portrayal of Scarlet Witch was also handled really well, but over the last few movies and shows, MCU seems simply unable to handle any kind of complex stories well without injecting useless crude comedy or some kind of subliminal political messaging.
Hell, Moon Knight was somehow made boring and forgettable while Daredevil, who is perhaps the darkest and one of the most complex Marvel heroes was turned into a pitiful joke and torn to shreds in the She-Hulk show, while the less She-Hulk is ever spoken of the better.
Now Mahershala Ali has been added to replace Wesley Snipes who will no doubt do a good job, but the old Blade movies were R rated and Blade in itself is an R rated character whose character is constantly shedding blood.
As such, this is unlikely to go with MCU’s more kid friendly tone and them making Blade comical, non-serious and light hearted will be the biggest offence since their mockery of Daredevil.
A human-vampire hybrid vampire killer is a topic that needs to be a bit more serious in demeanour than Guardians of the Galaxy.
Plus, Marvel is known for overusing and exploiting CGI to an extent that it makes it an eyesore while Blade has fought vampires that have often harboured really terrifying designs.
With the way the current MCU is, it only makes you worry about how Blade is going to butchered at the hands of studio execs and producers who want nothing more these days than to spread ‘The Message’.
