With every passing day, rumors about Mauricio Pochettino being unhappy in Paris are getting louder and louder. In yesterday's Champions League match, PSG was played off the park by Manchester City. The Argentine’s squad was left chasing shadows for the entirety of the game. The devasting front three of PSG, including stellar names like Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe were marshaled superbly by Guardiola’s men.
Pep's decision to start Zinchenko and bring Jesus on in the second half proved to be a masterstroke. Gabriel Jesus scored the winner for City and probably had the last laugh.
The result means City finishes group A as group winners. On the other hand, PSG finishes second and, the likelihood of them facing the likes of Bayern, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc seems pretty high. Back in Paris, Pochettino will be under strict scrutiny given the manner of their defeat.
Earlier in the pre-match conference, the Argentine had said he was happy and focused on his job. But it still seems like Pochettino’s heart lies elsewhere.
The red half of Manchester would have been delighted with yesterday's result. After the sacking of Solskjaer, the red devils are still on the hunt for his successor. Managers like Zidane, Brendan Rogers, and Eric Ten Hag have all turned down the offer to take the hot seat at Old Trafford.
From the day Pochettino joined PSG, there were reports about him being unhappy and unsettled. The Argentine even said it was hard to coach the team and was growing tired of the big personalities in the dressing room.
Pochettino's family is still residing in London, and the Argentine himself is interested in replacing Solskjaer at United.
Manchester United has made Pochettino their priority. But given PSG’s stature, United will have to fight tooth and nail to get their man.
