Despite Florian Wirtz having transfer ties to both Liverpool and Arsenal, Manchester City is a huge admirer of the Bayer Leverkusen star and is considering making a serious bid for him. The attacking midfielder had a strong season in 2021–22, scoring 10 goals and dishing out 14 assists to aid Leverkusen in finishing third in the Bundesliga and advancing to the round of 16 of the Europa League. However, an ACL tear in March of last year tragically cut short his season early.
If Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and Kalvin Phillips all leave the Etihad, Pep Guardiola will need to make significant changes in the middle. Wirtz is one player who will be considered as a replacement in City's plans for living without that trio. This summer, Guardiola wants to bring in three big-name players, with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice at the top of his list. However, considering how much City like him, a bid for Wirtz should not be ruled out.
In his last nine league games for Leverkusen, Wirtz has recorded four goals. He made a comeback in January. At the Bay Arena, he is under contract through June 2027. Leverkusen, however, is in danger of being completely excluded from European competition next season as they are presently ranked eighth in the standings. The agent of Wirtz might request a transfer as a result of his team's inability to advance to the Champions League or Europa League. He won't lack interest because the talented 19-year-old is one of the finest young players in Europe.
