In a bid to promote tourism in the UT, Ladakh has introduced Ladakh Apricot Blossom festival or Chuli Mendoq which is nothing less than a stunning visual delight for the travelers exploring the place.
On the lines of Japan's cherry blossom festival, Ladakh UT has decided to make the place an international tourist destination to attract tourists from across the globe.
Apricot, populary called as "chulli" in Ladakhi was introduced to the arid region of Ladakh over a century ago by Chinese traders passing through the area via the Silk Route. Now, in the 21st century, the fruit has become an integral part of Ladakh's culture, heritage and economy. The valleys of Ladakh are lush with apricot trees.
Every year during the month of April, the valleys come alive with the vibrancy of these pink-centered white flowers and it is definitely a sight to behold.
Clearly, the UT administration has left no stone unturned to give competition to Jammu and Kashmir, known as a paradise for tourists, by introducing a variety of interesting attractions for the tourists coming from across the places. From presenting local handicrafts exhibition, displaying cum selling of apricots products to organising cultural programme, the list is super thrilling and exciting.
The Ladakh Apricot Blossom festival takes place in April so make sure to not miss out on it next year.
