Kuldeep Panwar Memorial Inter-Media Badminton – Gaurav, Richa & Charanjeet lift titles
The defending champions Gaurav Marwaha and Richa Sehgal won the mixed-doubles title in the fourth edition of the Kuldeep Panwar Memorial Inter-Media Badminton Championship held at Sector 38 West Sports Complex in Chandigarh on Friday.
The pair of Gaurav Marwaha and Richa Sehgal defeated the team of Kulbhushan Ahuja and Jasvir Kaur by 15-12, 15-13 to grab the gold medal.
The team of Ramesh Handa and Charanjeet Kaur was placed third.
In the women’s doubles final, the team of Charanjeet Kaur and Richa Sehgal defeated the team of Jasvir Kaur and Harpreet Kaur by 15-2, 15-6.
In the women’s singles, Charanjeet Kaur and Richa Sehgal won their respective semi-final matches to enter the final.
The Punjab-Haryana-Chandigarh Sports Journalists Association along with Chandigarh Badminton Association is organizing the two-day tournament in the memory of the former sports journalist Kuldeep Panwar.
Panwar passed away of cardiac arrest at a young age of 29 in 2017. He started his career as a sports journalist with Hindustan Times in Chandigarh in 2010. In 2015, he joined The Tribune and later on moved to Delhi, working for Mint.
Panwar hailed from Kunihar village in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. He was an alumnus of mass communication department of Himachal University, Shimla.
