Idk about nihari but I prefer Al Jawar over other restaurants anyday
Indeed, it is overhyped.
Karim’s is the name which instantly occurs when one thinks about Jama Masjid or Old Delhi, for someone who belongs from ‘Purani Dilli, people asking you during a conversation about the delicacies of Old Delhi is pretty common. So many people visiting Delhi go to Karim’s as if it is a part of their itinerary, but what I never understand is Why?
I have never found one thing at this restaurant to be extraordinary. The food would either taste bad or ordinary. As someone who belongs to this culture, I know exactly what tastes good and whatnot, and when someone offers me a boiled egg on top of rice & calls it biryani, it makes me angry. Just like their joke of biryani, I went to this place during the holy month of ‘Ramzan & I have heard so much about Karim’s Nahari which is served in the morning throughout the year except in Ramzan they serve it till 4 in the morning. I have eaten Nahari my whole life in my home to several other places & even at weddings. I know what good Nahari is and even there at 4 in the morning, hungry I was disappointed. A ‘Mughlai restaurant’ which does not even know how to make ‘Biryani’ or Nahari’ has no right to call itself a Mughlai Restaurant and that too in Old Delhi.
Even their services are extremely bad, rude and arrogant staff who knows nothing about hospitality, if you have a short temper, I would suggest you to avoid Karim’s as I am sure you will end up getting into a fight with one of their staff. The ambiance is not good for a place that is charging this much for their so-called ‘Mughlai Food’.
So, all things considered, I have never liked Karim’s, and I do not get the people who do. If you have a problem with your hard-earned money, I would suggest you do a little charity rather than burn it at Karim’s.
