Despite not yet having a widespread theatre release, John Wick: Chapter 4 has already broken a number of records for the action franchise.
The fourth and longest installment in the narrative of the renowned assassin played by Keanu Reeves received the greatest ratings for the whole series. At the time of writing, Chad Stahelski's most recent film got a 93% approval rating from critics on the movie review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
High critic ratings (86% for John Wick and 89% for Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 — Parabellum) allowed the three preceding movies to accomplish the same achievement, but the fourth John Wick movie is the first to surpass the 90% threshold.
In a brand-new adventure set in Europe and Japan, Chapter 4 by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch promises to expose John's vendetta against the High Table.
Not-so-retired hitman John goes into hiding with the aid of the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne, Reeves's fellow cast member in The Matrix), who is prepared to kill new bad guy Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgrd).
As Wick repels assassins rushing at him from all sides on the streets of Paris and Osaka, the franchise's breathtaking action sequences reach new heights in this installment.
In Chapter 4, in addition to Reeves and Fishburne, late actor Lance Reddick reprises the character of concierge Charon in one of his final acting performances, and Ian McShane also makes a cameo as the manager of the New York Continental, Winston Scott.
Together with Wick newbie Skarsgrd, other recent additions to the franchise include singer Rina Sawayama as Osaka Continental concierge Akira, martial artist Donnie Yen as assassin Caine, and Game of Thrones' Natalia Tena as Katia, John's adopted sister.
On March 24, John Wick: Chapter Four will be released in theatres. Along with DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD, past John Wick films are also available to buy or rent on Amazon Video.
