By destroying our planet, we are destroying ourselves”, never has that phrase been more true. Deforestation. Unsustainable urban growth. Immense greenhouse emissions. It’s time we wake up! The inequality in our world is worsening. Poorer countries are worse affected by extreme weathers hindering their agricultural developments. Socially, people are forced to move away from their home, breaking up their family and culture. And it’s not just developing countries that are worse affected. We all remember the chaos of the Australian wildfire in 2020. Natural disasters like tropical storms, wildfires and flooding will become more frequent. This may seem shockingly unbelievable, but it’s a harsh reality we have to face. Our progress won’t work if we all don’t work together. Delegating developed countries a higher obligation to tackle climate change doesn’t mean all countries should relax and watch them carry the burden alone. Developing countries can help by afforestation and finding sustainable methods to develop. This would not only help the environment, but it would also benefit the health of workers and traditional communities. Climate change affects all of us. We don’t want to be writing an apology letter to our future generations in devastating sorrow and regret. Wake up. We have the technology. We have the choice before us. You may call it idealistic, but I call it an essential duty for humanity to care. At the end of the day, it’s not climate change that destroys us. It’s ourselves.
