India has shown an interest in hosting the Olympics on numerous occasions, but has never progressed far enough in the process. Over the next decade and a half, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has stated that it hopes to host the Asian Games, Youth Olympics, and Summer Olympics.
According to Thomas Bach, head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), there are many countries interested in hosting the Games in 2036, 2040, and beyond, including India. Paris (2024), Los Angeles (2028), and Brisbane (2032) have been chosen to host the next three Olympic Games (2032).
According to popular belief, the number of potential bidders for the Games has decreased in recent years. Many countries may be put off by the rising costs and controversies associated with holding such a large multi-disciplinary event. However, Bach claims that this is not the case.
IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta indicated that the organisation is interested in the concept. The Delhi administration has stated that the Games will be held in 2048 as part of India's centennial festivities.
Countries that are enamoured with the splendour and grandeur of hosting the Games are more likely to take the plunge. The 2008 Beijing Olympics served as China's huge coming-out celebration, allowing it to demonstrate its status as a major global power.
India may embrace the concept of demonstrating that it can carry off a major event and believe that the cost and effort will be worth it.
For other countries, such as the United Kingdom and Australia, the Games could serve as a catalyst for the development of sporting and other facilities in underserved areas.
To limit expenditures and scale of the Games, the IOC has recently attempted to place a cap on the number of events and participants in the Olympics. To keep budgets in check, this must be followed.
The latest European football championship was held all throughout Europe. It could be interesting to look at the prospect of hosting the Olympics and other important events jointly so that no single country bears the financial and logistical burden. It may also encourage neighbouring countries to collaborate on a joint initiative.
