Amid the surge in Covid cases in the country, a new symptom has emerged that is mostly found in children.
According to reports conjunctivitis is a common symptom of Covid 19 infection in children.
Conjunctivitis or "pink eye" is a common condition that causes redness and inflammation of the thin layer of tissue that coverts the front of the eye.
According to paediatricians, watery discharge from the eyes is being observed commonly among children affected by the virus over the past few weeks.
Treatment for conjunctivitis is mostly symptomatic, and parents are advised to clean the eyes with lukewarm water.
A recent single-center study found that young infants were disproportionately more affected by Covid-19 than older children, and conjunctival involvement was noted in 42.8% of affected infants.
Among adults, severe throat infection with sinusitis, running nose, muscle pain, extreme weakness and loss of appetite were common.
However, the good news is that most patients, both children and adults, tend to recover on their own without any specific medication or need for hospitalisation.
