The World Food Program (WFP) has reported that it will need $2.6 billion next year to meet the needs of the Afghan people.
Currently, 3.2 million children in Afghanistan are facing severe hunger and its threatening consequences, according to the WFP figures which were published on Thursday, December 2.
According to WFP, humanitarian needs in Afghanistan have increased and currently, 23 million people are in need of urgent food assistance.
โIn such a situation, there is a need to separate humanitarian aid from political debates,โ the agency said.
The innocent people of Afghanistan and the children of this country have their lives ruined without guilt and cannot be sentenced to starvation due to the geopolitical lottery and the birth lottery, WFP stressed.
It also says it is holding new videos and photos of the countryโs remote areas to keep the focus on the Afghan crisis, which shows a series of droughts, economic collapse, and the socio-economic impact of COVID-19.
In addition, the WFP has warned that in case of negligence, its staff will face a budget shortfall on the front lines of the humanitarian crisis.
Earlier, the UN had reported that there were health and economic crises in Afghanistan.
It had said that 18 million Afghans were starving and warned that a humanitarian catastrophe would occur if the Afghan people were not helped.
Meanwhile, the new crisis in Afghanistan is taking shape at a time when, despite the continued humanitarian assistance of some organizations, most countries have stopped providing assistance to Afghanistan.
