Chelsea's British signing In a lively but ultimately disappointing Friday night derby, Enzo Fernandez got his first taste of Premier League football in a 0-0 draw against his new club's visiting neighbours Fulham.
The World Cup-winning midfielder, who cost Chelsea's American owners nearly 107 million pounds ($128.98 million) from Benfica, looked calm and composed, spraying pinpoint passes and timing his tackles well.
Fernandez "handled himself magnificently," Potter said.
"You could see his talent and what he'll bring to the team. Because he hasn't been with us for that long, it wasn't easy for him or us. But I'm enthralled by him.
"New players are adjusting to life in a new country and league. It's not that simple. When the price is as high as it is, questions will be raised; this is the nature of the business "Potter stated.
The world cup-winning midfielder demonstrated his quality throughout the match, and despite starting for Chelsea only 72 hours after signing the contract, he didn't look out of place and was well positioned. Enzo Fernandez (6/8) had the most tackles won on the night. Despite Chelsea's poor performance, he had the most recoveries and completed the most long balls. He was fantastic at controlling the tempo of the midfield, and he's already looking like a solid signing for Chelsea.
Enzo also played a fantastic over-the-top pass to Mason Mount in the first half, whose cut back was not covered by Kai Havertz's outstretched legs. He also had a fantastic shot from outside the box that was inches away from becoming his first goal for the Blues in his debut.
Graham Potter's men are ninth in the table, 9 points behind the places in the Champions League. When the teams met just three weeks ago, Fulham had won the west London derby for the first time since 2006. In their first season back in the top flight, Marco Silva's men are two points and three places ahead of their local rivals.
