Honoring the Legend: National Sports Day and Major Dhyan Chand's Legacy
National Sports Day, celebrated annually on August 29 in India, marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the hockey wizard whose skill and contributions elevated Indian sports on the global stage. Born in Prayagraj in 1905, Dhyan Chand played a pivotal role in securing Olympic gold medals for India in 1928, 1932, and 1936. His extraordinary career, spanning from 1926 to 1948, saw him score over 400 goals in 185 matches. In 1956, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan. The day also features the presentation of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, India's highest sporting honor.
