Zafar Paghman Arch, Afghanistan Independence Monument:
Zafar Arch is a monument that was built after Afghanistan gained independence from British rule. When Shah Amanullah Khan gained the independence of Afghanistan in 1298 AH according to 1919 AD, he built a monument to Esteghlal (Zafar Arch) in Paghman. In the middle of the arch and on the arch-like roof and the walls of the Zafar arch, countless letters and figures are engraved on all the ceilings and walls. In the stone inscriptions, the Treaty of Independence of Afghanistan and the letter engraved on the arch-like roof and domed walls are the names of those who gained the independence of Afghanistan with their blood.
Since the independence of Afghanistan was first declared in this place, it was built in this place. This arch was a symbol of victory and remembrance of all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Afghanistan.
This building was built on August 19, 1919, but it was severely damaged by the events of the war years in Afghanistan.
Reconstruction of the Zafar Paghman Arch was completed within six months at the request of the Ministry of Information and Culture and with the financial cooperation of the US Provincial Reconstruction Team at a cost of one hundred and eighty-six thousand dollars, while retaining its historical originality.
There were casualties during the years of war and conflict. The temperate climate of Paghman as well as the Zafar arch have caused thousands of domestic and foreign tourists to choose this region for their entertainment and fun every year.
The people of Afghanistan consider this place as a symbol of their freedom and independence and celebrate Independence Day every year on the 28th of Assad.
