Due to the increasing number of omicron and Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom, many Premier League matches over the weekend were canceled. Out of the ten PL matches, six of the fixtures had to be canceled, and there are ongoing talks about postponing one round of fixtures from December 28 to 30.
December is considered to be the toughest period in the PL, because of fixture congestion. All the teams have to play two-three matches in the space of 7 days. Canceling one round of fixtures would result in the fixture pile-up and could take a toll on teams with a weak bench.
Amid the ongoing crises, game week 18 was an absolute teat with many talking points. So, here are the four talking points from game week 18.
4 The high-flying Gunners.
Arsenal is in the form of their life, and this weekend's thumping of Leeds United was evident of the fact. The Gunners have won their last three matches, scoring 9 goals and conceding only one. The win over Leeds further cemented their position in the top 4. Mikel Arteta is finally making this young Arsenal team tick, and they are certainly a force to reckon with in the PL.
3 Chelsea drop points again.
The Blues again had to settle for a draw in this weekend's fixture against Wolves. Chelsea has dropped 7 points in their last 3 games and has slipped to 3rd position in the PL. The Blues cannot afford to drop more points if they want to stay in the title race.
2 The Conte Revolution.
Antonio Conte is certainly living up to his reputation at Spurs. Tottenham was brilliant against Liverpool and could have easily won had they converted their first-half chances. Spurs are still unbeaten in the PL under Conte, and the Italian is building something special at White Hart Lane.
1 Who can stop Man City?
League Leaders, Machester City, again breezed past their opponents and look unstoppable at the moment. The Cityzens have not dropped a single point in their last 8 matches. The 4-1 win over Newcastle further asserted their position at the top of the PL.
