From Ayodhya to Tokyo - How coach Deepak Kumar shape up the career of Tokyo-bound shooter Divyansh
Video link - https://youtu.be/KMFeCcbpEZQ
The story is about how shooting coach Deepak Kumar Dubey shaped up the career of Divyansh Singh Panwar, who was once rejected by the coaches in the junior national camp because of his unusual shooting stance. Their first reaction to Divyansh's shooting posture was that he wouldn't be able to shoot at an international-level and if he wanted to continue with the sport then he had to shift his shooting stance. Disappointed, Divyansh decided to come under the fold of coach Deepak Kumar and shifted his base from Jaipur to Faridabad, where the coach is stationed. And as the saying goes, rest is history.
"Divyansh was addictive to pubgy video games. Once his father scolded him because of his continuous overuse of gaming and the episode forced him to leave the gaming and eventually he decided to move out of his house for shooting and shifted his base to Faridabad," says coach Deepak Kumar. "It was somewhere in 2016 and one evening I got a call from Divyansh that he wanted to come to Faridabad and stay here to pursue his sport. I told him to give me some time, so that I could chalk out a plan. But he had already boarded the bus and asked me if I could make an arrangement for his stay. He reached Faridabad late at night and since then he has been training under me."
Former international shooter Deepak Kumar hails from Ayodhya and currently works with Sports Authority of India as a shooting coach.
His trainee Divyansh is currently world number two in the 10m air rifle event. "The 'unusual' shooting posture that once got him a rejection has become his strength. It gave him more stability and with the same 'unusual' body posture, Divyansh is winning medals at the international-level," says the coach. Divyansh is competing in 10m air rifle individual and mix-team events in Tokyo.
Best wishes to Divyansh and to his coach Deepak Kumar Dubey, hope the shishya lives up to guru's expectations in Tokyo.
