Amid the tension of the World Cup occurring during unusual circumstances, England fans still long for their country to be crowned world champions.
Missed penalties against a strong Italy outfit caused devastation on the night in their last tournament, but England will be hoping just for that stroke of luck to form memories to last a lifetime.
So, how far will England progress this time out?
Six matches in total are all it takes to take home the glory. However, this feat is not as easy as it sounds due to the blushing talent entering the field of play this November.
England must steer their way through three group-stage matches against the United States, Wales, and Iran. If they succeed, a further three knockout games will take place if they are to reach successive tournament finals.
Iran will make England uncomfortable as they have never locked horns on the international stage.
The following, and penultimate, match of the group stage will see England face the United States, who have met twice in World Cup finals – in both 1950 and 2010 – with England failing to leave victorious on either occasion.
The first ‘Battle of Britain’ at a World Cup will tie up the group when England face Wales. Possibly the trickiest match for England in the group stages, with plenty of Premier League experience lurking in the Welsh roster.
All in all, England should advance through their group with relative ease. But what would be in store for them next?
If England were to top their group, they would battle against the runners-up of a group that contains Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, and the Netherlands. If they advance, but finish second, they will face the winners of the group previously mentioned.
Southgate will be looking to progress as far as they physically can; but a tough quarterfinal following their match-up with either Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, and Netherlands may be their final kick of a ball in Qatar, with Argentina and France a possibility.
