Honouring the nation after being sworn in as the 15th President of India, Droupadi Murmu today stated that she was honoured to take charge at a time India is completing 75 years of Independence. She added that she was the first President to be born in independent India.
Murmu is the first tribal woman to hold the highest constitutional post in the country. Chief Justice of India N V Ramana administered the oath to Murmu in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, S Jaishankar, and Amit Shah, among others.
In his farewell speech, outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday warned that the climate crisis could endanger the future of the planet. “Mother nature is in deep agony, and the climate crisis can endanger the very future of this planet. We must take care of our environment, our land, air and water, for the sake of our children,” he said.
