A new study carried out at Newcastle University in the UK has shown that drinking a small amount of whey protein supplement before meals can help people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels.
Whey protein is a mixture of proteins isolated from whey, the liquid material created as a by-product of cheese production. The proteins consist of α-lactalbumin, β-lactoglobulin, serum albumin and immunoglobulins. Glycomacropeptide also makes up the third largest component but is not a protein.
The findings of the research were published in the journal 'BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care.'
